If bulking up was an easy task then everyone you know would be 250lbs of pure muscle. The truth is muscle building takes a lot of your time and requires a huge amount of effort. That is the bottom line that everyone must come to terms with before starting. If you accept the truth and are willing to go for it then the following three steps are what you need to do.

Step 1 - Weightlifting
This must be done correctly and includes your workout routines and programs, as well as the actual exercises that you do. You must workout your entire body the best you can without overtraining. Try to workout 4 to 5 times a week and ensure that covers all your body and maybe some muscles twice. It is important to have at least two rest says per week to let you muscles recover. Do both compound (e.g. Squats and Bench press) and isolated (e.g. Curls) exercises to maximise the use of all your muscles. Try to cut down on your cardio when bulking up and then switch to a cardio program after to tone up.

Step 2 - Diet
Diets are really important because if you are not eating right you will not grow. You have to eat big, to lift big, and to get big. Basically you need to be eating at least 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight on a daily basis. You want to get big, but you don't want to get fat so, try to consume very little saturated fats.

Step 3 - Everything Else
Mainly you must make sure that you are not overtraining! Overtraining will damage the muscle fibres and prevent muscle growth. Try to be consistent with your bulking program or you will be wasting your time. The results will not come at all if you do not stay focused and keep training. Once you get going you won’t want to stop.
